It's all automatic and you cannot adjust or change anything. The way it works is that the operating system puts the most used programs on the faster flash portion so they load quicker. The spinning part is the larger one and flash is 128 gigs on the 2 and 3 TB and only 24 on the 1TB. Thanks in advance and I appreciate all of your time and help and any info or suggestions you may offer.įusion drive is 2 drives in one: one portion flash, one spinning. Logic has gotten to be such a good program that I will probably use it as my main DAW software, but I'd still like to be able to use Pro Tools if I want or need to. So, on the most elemental level, what is Fusion Drive for, and what problems can it cause? Is Flash Storage just a better way to save data? I haven't bough a new Apple in years, so I really don't know the main intended function of either, and was surprised that the Pro Tools people seem to universally avoid Fusion. I also plan to use the Adobe products, and I don't know if Fusion Drive is known to have an issue with Adobe either. Do I need both? Or can you only have one? What is recommended for audio recording? I don't need a huge amount of storage since I'll be saving to an external hard drive as needed. What exactly is Fusion Drive and how can it help or hurt audio recording? Or is this just an issue that Pro Tools has with it? I'm not current on all the advances in recent iMacs, so I'd like some info concerning both the Fusion Drive and the Flash Storage. I've seen several similar comments on other forums as well. The Pro Tools forums say to avoid it altogether and get only the Flash Storage. I've been to several forums and I keep hearing negative things about Fusion Drive. I will be running Logic, but since I'm getting a new machine I'd like to be able to do anything I want to with it, including running Pro Tools. I'm considering a new iMac 27" with 32 gb, and a 4.0 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.2. ![]()
